A highly important early C19th white statuary Regency Italian chimneypiece. Each jamb bears carved figures of classical Bacchic maidens, one carrying the wine cup, symbolising revelry and intoxication, the other is accompanied by a burning torch, symbolising Bacchic fertility and virility.

Music is the theme of this late 18th century, English, Neoclassical chimneypiece, beautifully sculpted in white statuary marble. Circa 1780. The breakfront moulded tiered shelf breaks over the jambs; the frieze is centered with an oblong tablet, and is sculpted with crossed, ribbon tied horns and overlaid with Pan’s graduated pipes.
