It wasn’t long after I created Jamb in 2001 that I started adding reproduction hanging lanterns to the collections. Like the fireplaces, all the lighting is faithfully reproduced from the original antique pieces we have owned and now there are over seventy designs and we are launching many new Wall Lights this year. Amongst other things I am proud that the Globe hanging lantern has become synonymous with Jamb.
This year marks a new beginning and turning point for Jamb, as we are creating a range of high quality lighting of a smaller scale. I have often heard clients saying “I love it but don’t you have it in a much smaller size?” That moment has arrived and one of the designs I am most excited by is the Barnsley hanging lantern, that is now hanging on display in our Pimlico Road showroom.
I bought the original lantern lying neglected in a corner of a dealer’s yard. So many items reduced in scale don’t necessarily work, but this sang to me. It is a Lutyens take on a Regency lantern and we have reproduced it replicating its original sleepy finish.
What makes me equally excited about the new additions to the lighting is not just their authenticity of the original antique, but their versatility. This lantern is perfect for so many different areas of the home: hallways, covered entrances or small stair wells in a multitude of architectural styles: Elizabethan, Georgian, Regency or Victorian. I love it!
